The Portuguese Waterford Gag creates poll pressure and, when used correctly, can encourage the horse to lower his head. This waterford mouth piece helps to encourage the horse to relax the jaw and not lean or take a strong hold of the bit. The bit action of a waterford mouthpiece is normally moderate, but can become very severe in rough hands if used with a “sawing†action.
